About Mother Root
Mother Root is bringing ginger switchel, a delicious non-alcoholic aperitif, back into the modern lifestyle. Founder Bethan Higson took the skills she gained from years in the wine trade, and applied them to create the perfect non-alcoholic beverage she could enjoy while pregnant or simply looking after her health. While ginger switchel has hundreds of years of history, Mother Root meets a very 21st century need: to unwind and feel good at the end of the day, while supporting your wellbeing.
The Mother Root site is a clean, modern design led by gorgeous product photography. In their move to the Shopify platform, we knew the Mother Root needed a personal touch that felt just like opening their ginger switchel and mixing yourself a soothing, warming, yet refreshing drink. Mother Root got bespoke navigation, header and footer designs, with subtle touches bringing the product to life, such as the paper-textured footer section echoing their paper label, and dividing lines on product cards mirroring the packaging’s unique minimalist elements.
As interest in the brand accelerated, Mother Root was outgrowing the basic Squarespace site they began with, and came to us in need of an upgrade. We migrated the entire website to Shopify for the brand to enjoy a more powerful, customisable ecommerce platform. We also implemented a subscription model with Recharge Payments for Mother Root devotees to automate their ginger switchel deliveries over a customised time frame. With an eye towards sustainability, the Mother Root product page also includes the option to buy in higher volumes to reduce shipping frequency. We also incorporated EcoCart at checkout for customers to have the option to offset the carbon emissions of their purchase, and Reviews.io provided social proof to add an extra layer of trust to the customer journey.
