If you’ve been considering opening a Shopify store or if you already have one, you will have noticed that there are different plans offered including Shopify Plus. Below we list everything you need to know about Shopify Plus.

What is Shopify Plus?

Shopify Plus is a premium, enterprise-level e-commerce platform designed for large and high-growth businesses. It offers advanced features, customisation options, and higher levels of support compared to Shopify's standard plan. Some of the key features of Shopify Plus include:

  • Custom checkout and payment experiences
  • Advanced reporting and analytics
  • Dedicated account management and 24/7 support
  • Custom storefront development and APIs
  • Shopify Plus is designed to help businesses scale their online operations, streamline their processes, and provide a seamless shopping experience for their customers.

How much does Shopify Plus cost?

The pricing for Shopify Plus varies and is customised for each merchant, taking into account the size and needs of the business. However, it typically starts at $2,000 per month. It is recommended to contact Shopify Plus directly for a quote that is tailored to your specific needs.

Regarding transaction fees, they are lower than if you were on the basic plan. Once you start to make $800,000 or more per month, the transaction fee will then become revenue based where you will pay 0.25% for each sales transaction. In comparison when you are on the Shopify basic plan, you will pay 2% or higher in transaction fees.

Is Shopify Plus worth it?

Whether Shopify Plus is worth it depends on your specific business needs and goals. Here are some factors to consider when evaluating if Shopify Plus is a good fit for your business:

  • Business size and growth: Shopify Plus is designed for large and high-growth businesses, so if your business is still small or growing at a slower pace, Shopify's standard plan may be more suitable.
  • Customisation needs: Shopify Plus offers advanced customisation options, including custom checkout and payment experiences, as well as custom storefront development and APIs. If your business requires these types of customization, due to complex product structure, fulfilment processes or other criteria, Shopify Plus may be worth it.
  • Support and service: Shopify Plus provides dedicated account management and 24/7 support. If these higher levels of support and service are important to your business, Shopify Plus may be worth it.
  • Cost: Shopify Plus starts at $2,000 per month, which is significantly more expensive than Shopify's standard plan. If your business can't absorb this increase in cost, it may not be worth it.
  • However, if your Shopify store makes more than $800,000 a month your transaction fees will be much lower.
  • If you don’t use Shopify Payments, you will also need to pay an extra 0.3%. If you do use Shopify payments, then this 0.3% fee is waived.
  • If you are earning a considerable amount of revenue, you can also contact Shopify and get some of your fees reduced.

How many Shopify Plus stores are there?

As of January 2023, there are more than 13,000 Shopify Plus stores, with more predominantly based in America and the United Kingdom. The amount of Shopify Plus stores are increasing year on year and with its many benefits for merchants, we can certainly understand this trend.

How to Upgrade to Shopify Plus?

To upgrade to Shopify Plus, you need to contact Shopify directly to discuss your upgrade, as well as business needs and goals. Once you sign-up, your store will be upgraded to the Shopify Plus plan within a period of 24 business hours. You will receive an email notification confirming the completion of the upgrade. The email will also include an introduction to Jumpstart, Shopify’s merchant onboarding program and contact information for the Shopify Plus Priority Support team.

You will also have a few more resources that will become available to you including the Shopify Plus Academy. The academy has a range of courses which will enable you to understand in-depth ecommerce strategies in key business areas. You can find out about marketing, acquisitions and how to customise your checkout to name a few courses. These Shopify Plus Academy courses are all on demand which means you can learn and watch at your own pace and time.

There will also be an opportunity to sign up to the “New from Shopify Plus” newsletter and you can also attend a welcome webinar with useful information to get you started quickly.

Is Shopify Plus Headless?

Shopify Plus supports both traditional and headless commerce. Traditional commerce refers to using the standard Shopify storefront and checkout experience, while headless commerce involves separating the front end (user interface) from the backend (server and data) and using APIs to integrate with the Shopify platform.

With Shopify Plus, you have the flexibility to choose the approach that works best for your business, whether that's a traditional or headless setup.

What is the difference between Shopify and Shopify Plus?

Shopify and Shopify Plus are two different versions of the Shopify e-commerce platform, each with its own unique set of features and benefits.

Shopify is a good choice for smaller businesses with more basic needs, while Shopify Plus is a better fit for larger businesses with more complex requirements and higher sales volumes.

With Shopify Plus, although you are paying more each month, you also get a considerable number of benefits including a dedicated account manager and launch engineer who can help you out with any issues. There is more theme customization available, more API integrations and exclusive use of apps such as Shopify Flow which is an automation platform – which is not available if you are on a Shopify basic plan.

If you are just starting out with your business then a basic plan may better for you but if you are more established and having a considerable amount of revenue already coming in, Shopify Plus will give you the tools you need to earn even more revenue.
